The soft pastel pencil is a medium made from pigment and soft binding agents, such as calcium carbonate, encased in wood. This creates a vivid, blendable color that is slightly harder than traditional pastels making them ideal for detail work. Artwork created with soft pastel & artists' drawing pencils is extremely fragile and often requires a finishing fixative to prevent the unwanted spread of the fine pigment particles.
